Earth Breeze: A Product Review
A Possible Solution?
I am SO excited to review the Earth Breeze Laundry strips! I had my eye on these for a minute!
So without further adieu I am going to review:
- Overall company values/website
- Product performance
- My experience and overall rating.
All this information is based off of the company website
The website is beautifully laid out. I was able to easily find commonly asked questions, directions, and company details. The only criticism I have is that it is challenging to find ingredients. I keep seeing the word NATURAL plastered everywhere but had a hard time looking for an ingredient list to back up that statement. (Remember when looking at a company and product they need to be able to back up their claims otherwise it is just greenwashing). I did eventually find an ingredient list under the FAQ tab.
Ingredients are: Glycerol, Primary Alcohol Ethoxylate, Sodium Dodecyl Sulfate, Sodium Acetate Trihydrate, Polyvinyl alcohol, Polyethylene Glycol, Fragrance, Deionized Water, and Starch (Corn).
I went ahead and broke down some of these ingredients. Remember I am not a chemist- but anyone can learn the basics of anything with the internet now.
A non-toxic, colorless, odorless, viscous liquid, that has antimicrobial and antiviral properties.
Primary Alcohol Ethoxylate
Is a non-harmful chemical that separates the dirt from the object being cleaned.
A colorless, odorless synthetic polymer that is soluble in water. Technically in the plastic family- for more in depth details on what this is check out my updated Droops Laundry detergent video which explains what this is and why it is commonly used in eco-cleaners.
Sodium Dodecyl Sulfate
Is a synthetic organic compound used to remove oily stains and residues.
Sodium Acetate Trihydrate
This is one of the components that makes the sheet dissolve in water.
A safe stabilizer for the dirt-removing ingredients, and, at the same time, helps them to retain their function even at lower temperatures.
Purified water is water that has been mechanically filtered or processed to remove impurities and make it suitable for use.
Ways They Give Back
When researching a company and product I always look for proof of the claims they make. These are the way Earth Breeze gives back:
For every purchase they donate 10 loads of detergent to nonprofits, they say that, “Laundry detergent is one of the top requested items at homeless shelters, homeless outreach, veterans organizations, women's shelters, animal care shelters, and disaster relief”. They have 48 organizations that they work with to donate detergent.
Additionally they contribute to:
- Native tree-planting
- Carbon emission offsets
- Are part of the 1% for the planet organization
Gray-water and septic safe
There detergents dissolves in both hot and cold water- this is really amazing because I wash all my clothing in cold water and with Droops detergent pods (which I also mentioned in my updated review) I had trouble with the pods dissolving in cold water and leaving a residue on my clothes. According to the website you can do hot, cold, all machines, and even hand wash (which I have tried and LOVE) being on the road sometimes we have to do a small load of laundry in a bucket!
The whole idea is that these sheets are super concentrated natural detergent. They come pre-measured so you just have to break off the amount needed per load and they are low-suding, which I found they suded up quite nice so not sure what they mean by that statement.
A standard pack does 60 washes, and comes with 30 sheets. Me being me, I make it stretch, but the cost per load of washing is 20 cents.
They say that the shelf life is up to 18 months and keeps best if left unopened and stored in a dry, well ventilated area. This could be a problem if you spill something on it or live in a moist place…. I would place sheets in a dry container just to protect them in the long run. I have kept them in the original packaging for about six months and have had no issues. I LOVE that they are compact for small spaces. When I was traveling full time these were perfect.
My Thoughts/ Reaction
I LOVE the flat space saving packaging. It is made of cardboard which can be recycled, burned, or composted. I do wish they would have used uncoated cardboard and a more natural design, that's just personal preference.
As I mentioned before I traveled full time in a semi converted 20 foot box truck. You can watch some of those adventure here So everything brought into the truck really had to be compact - these are SO incredible essays to store and we don't have to worry about any unwanted leeks like conventional detergent.
I tried both the scented and unscented and as far a smell it is nothing overwhelming, it just smells clean. I prefer a stronger scent but you can always add more essential oils.
Over all, Earth Breeze has been by far my favorite eco-friendly and zero-waste laundry detergent.
On Packaging I would give it a 9.5 out of 10. I love that it is space saving, it is also recyclable and compostable. I can tell there is a coding on the cardboard- I would have liked to have seen a more natural looking- uncoated cardboard but the graphics, information and details are all beautifully done.
I am giving Earth Breeze a 10 out of 10 for company responsibility. I feel they go above and beyond their responsibility in a multitude of ways. I can tell that many of these causes are personal to them and that they are passionate about doing better business and making an impact in the world. Not only do they talk the talk but are able to provide evidence and a road map of how they are
UsabilityOutstandingly simple to use, versatile machine types and handwashing options (love that). Not very scented so if you are sensitive to smells that's perfect. No residue, everything FEELS clean and refreshed.
I would definitely re-order. I am very happy with the product performance and company responsibility. If you would like to try it yourself you can click above, I do make a SMALL percent (so if you love what I do and want this anyway it is a great way to support me!)
As always, have a beautiful day!
